Gabrielle Walter won the title of Miss New York 2017
May 28, 2017 – Gabrielle Walter won the title of Miss New York 2017 during a spectacular production at the St. George Theatre, Staten Island, NY. Gabrielle will represent the State of New York and compete for the title of Miss America 2017, airing live on ABC on September 10, 2017 from Atlantic City, NJ.
During the Saturday preliminary competition Gabrielle received the Lifestyle & Fitness Award.
Gabrielle Walter is a Clarence native and summa cum laude graduate of Canisius College, where she received a Bachelors of Arts in Communication Studies while minoring in Dance. She is currently a rising third-year law student at the University at Buffalo School of Law. She plans to pursue her legal career in commercial litigation and tax law.
As founder of "DreamUp America", Gabrielle spends much of her time promoting her innovative platform in schools and community organizations across the state. DreamUp is an education-based transformational initiative that helps children determine and plot their future, starting now. She is passionate about teaching young children the importance of setting goals, finding confidence within, seeking out opportunities, embracing diversity and providing them with the life skills and tools to go after dreams. She is also the state ambassador for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, the national platform of Miss America.
Gabrielle is an ardent music enthusiast, avid runner, and proud lifelong learner. During her spare time she loves to relax with family and friends, read a good book, or with coffee in hand, catch up on the latest news through social media.

Since 1989, Miss America titleholders have appeared at thousands of public speaking engagements and charitable events to generate awareness for a variety of causes, including homelessness, HIV/AIDS prevention, domestic violence, diabetes awareness, character education, and literacy.
