Nina Davuluri has been involved with the Miss America Organization for the past seven years. In July, she won the title of Miss New York 2013 representing her hometown of Syracuse. With the help of the $25,000 scholarship monies she earned from the Miss America Organization, Nina graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Brain Behavior and Cognitive Science. Nina now lives in New York where she is currently in the process of applying to medical school in hopes of becoming a physician.
Celebrating Diversity through Cultural Competency
Durning Nina’s year of service, she has chosen to promote the platform “Celebrating Diversity through Cultural Competency.” Diversity is a rich and endless source of experience, language, custom and tradition that enhances our nation and makes us unique. However, we fall behind due to a lack of understanding the diversity that exists in our country—an issue that persists at the local, state, and national levels. This is precisely the reason she chose to advocate for this issue as Miss New York 2013.
